■ Bio-Tissue, Inc. appointed Tom Daniells to senior vice president, sales and marketing. He will manage Bio-Tissue’s North American sales force and the company’s marketing, which is based in Doral, Fla.
■ The 2012 Survey of Optometric Practice, conducted by the American Optometric Association (AOA) Research and Information Center, is now available for purchase through www.aoa.org/onlinestore at 10% to 50% pre-publication discounts. The Survey is comprised of “Income from Optometry,” “Employment of Paraoptometrics” and “Practicing Optometrists and their Patients.”
■ Unilens Vision, and Bausch + Lomb announced that Unilens has been named an authorized Boston GP Manufacturer. The partnership will provide Unilens’ GP independent practitioner accounts with the convenience to choose from a wider variety of GP lens materials.
■ The Glaucoma Research Foundation named Rick Halprin, CPA, global marketing manager, glaucoma, for Alcon Laboratories, Inc., to its board of directors. Mr. Halprin is a Temple University and Harvard Program for Management Development graduate and has served on the board of Prevent Blindness, Hill School of Fort Worth, Texas.
■ Vistakon announced the launch of ACUVUE OASYS Brand Contact Lenses with HYDRACLEAR Plus Technology 24-pack, citing data that show wearers with more contact lenses on hand had a significantly better wearing experience.
■ The Southern College of Optometry (SCO) announced it has received a $250,000 grant from the Assisi Foundation that will be applied to ongoing construction of the school’s $9.4 million academic building expansion.
■ Eyeconic, an online eyewear store for VSP Vision Care members and providers, announced the new ability for VSP members to buy single-vision prescription glasses and the start of a test that may soon allow the use of VSP benefits on eyeconic.com.
