July 24, 2019 -- Today, July 23, is Amelia Earhart Day! In 2009, a pair of the pilot’s aluminum goggles was auctioned off. Accompanying the goggles was a letter Ms. Earhart wrote to aerial cinematographer Ray Fernstrom, in which she complimented the padded goggles because she said they clung around her unconventional nose.
