ASSOCIATIONS
■ The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) found that nearly all contact lens wearers in a national survey reported risky eye care behaviors that can lead to eye infections. The report, published in the CDC’s “Morbidity and Morality Weekly Report,” also found that one third of contact lens wearers sought care for potentially preventable eye problems. The CDC and AOA have teamed up to promote a campaign for contact lens and eye health.
■ International Vision Expo & Conference announced the launch of VisionariesCommunity.com, a social sharing, networking and information hub developed exclusively for the growing Vision Expo community of eyecare professionals, industry leaders and visionaries.
■ Prevent Blindness announced its support of Healthe and its EyeSafe technologies. Healthe will donate a portion of the sales of its EyeSafe products to Prevent Blindness in support if its children’s eye health programs and resources. Products include protective covers for digital phones, tablets and computer monitors that reduce exposure to digital UV and High-Energy Visible blue light emitted from such devises. ■ Heidelberg Engineering is relocating both its headquarters and U.S. headquarters. The headquarters of the company, which is based in Germany, moved to a new office and laboratory building in the Bahnstadt area. The head of the U.S. arm of the company will relocate to Franklin, Mass.
■ Novartis intends to start clinical trials of Google Inc.’s “smart” contact lenses on humans in 2016. Novartis’ eye care division, Alcon, entered into an agreement with Google for the ocular technology in July 2014.
■ RevolutionEHR has announced the launch of Rev360, a new ECP business services company. Enabled through Revolution EHR practice data, Rev360 is designed to drive business performance and profitability. The company also announced Rev360’s SmartFlow for Sight, which will provide Revolution customers a streamlined solution to order products. The service is scheduled to be available in 2016.

LEGISLATION
■ California Bill AB 684, which enables an optical retailer, optician or health plan to lease space to an O.D., under conditions, such as lease payments cannot be based on the amount of eye exams, and gives the California State Board of Optometry additional authority, is awaiting Governor Edmund G. Brown’s signature.

■ Eight optometry schools in the U.S. will compete for a $5,000 educational grant from the University Education Challenge, a program out of ABB Optical Group, in partnership with Paragon Vision Science. Schools include:
