The Vision Council (TVC) Foundation is encouraging eyecare providers, optical retailers, and members of the eyewear industry to participate in the 2026 National Sunglasses Day campaign, scheduled for June 27. The annual initiative promotes the use of UV-protective eyewear as part of everyday eye health and wellness practices.
Data from TVC’s “2025 Market inSights with 2026 Forecast” report found that more than 168 million Americans, representing 63% of US adults, wear nonprescription sunglasses, while more than one-third of adults do not regularly use protective eyewear outdoors.
"Eyecare providers and optical professionals are the most trusted voices when it comes to protecting patients' vision and long-term eye health," said Ashley Mills, CEO of TVC and TVC Foundation. "National Sunglasses Day gives our industry a focused moment to champion a simple, powerful message: Wear your sunglasses every day. This year, we've made it as easy as possible to participate in the celebration, and we hope practices and businesses across the country will join in and make this campaign their own."
The organization has released a series of free promotional toolkits designed for eyecare professionals, optical industry members, media, and consumers. The materials include educational resources, customizable promotional templates, UV safety information, and social media graphics.
In addition, the foundation is offering up to 25 complimentary printed copies of its National Sunglasses Day UV Protection Educational Pamphlet to eyecare providers upon request.
TVC Foundation is also encouraging organizations and practices to participate by hosting in-office events, offering sunglasses promotions, sharing educational content online, and posting campaign-related content using the hashtag #NationalSunglassesDay. Participating businesses may also be highlighted across the organization’s digital platforms in advance of and during the June 27 observance. OM
