The American Optometric Association (AOA) Foundation — Optometry Cares and the PERC Alliance have announced the opening of applications for the third annual Golden Opportunity Award, honoring the legacy of David Golden, OD, by supporting emerging optometrists in independent practice ownership. Up to three recipients will each receive $50,000 to help launch their first independent practice.
The program recognizes early-career optometrists who demonstrate excellence, entrepreneurship, and a commitment to service. Priority consideration is given to applicants from underrepresented groups and those establishing practices in underserved areas, reflecting the initiative’s goal to promote diversity and equity in eye care.
Now in its third year, the award continues to build on Dr. Golden’s legacy of advancing independent optometry. The 2025 recipients, Danielle Richardson, OD, and Kayla Campbell, OD, were recognized for their dedication to accessible, community-focused patient care.
Applications for the 2026 Golden Opportunity Award will be accepted through Jan. 15, 2026. Eligibility details and submission information are available here. OM
