As use of IR surveillance systems becomes more widespread, Zenni Optical has unveiled Zenni ID Guard, a proprietary lens coating that is designed to protect biometric data by reflecting near-infrared (IR) light and disrupting facial recognition or ocular mapping technologies.

The lens coating reflects up to 80% of near-infrared wavelengths and reduces the risk of unauthorized biometric tracking. The technology is visibly marked by a subtle iridescent pink sheen.
However, the coating may interfere with consumer-facing facial recognition tools such as Face ID and Windows Hello.
Zenni ID Guard is now offered on a range of Zenni products, including Blokz blue light-blocking lenses, clear daily standard lenses, and EyeQLenz.
EyeQLenz with Zenni ID Guard provides a combination of visual and biometric protection: infrared reflection for biometric privacy and IR sun protection, blue light filtering for screen-heavy environments, light adaptation for indoor-outdoor wear, and UVA/UVB blocking.
In addition to its IR-blocking properties, Zenni ID Guard lenses offer scratch resistance, antiglare performance, and water resistance.
